AAC & Augmentative Communication

Support communication through all modalities — devices, sign language, picture boards, and more.

What Is AAC?

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is any method that helps someone communicate beyond spoken words. Whether your child uses a speech-generating device, picture boards, sign language, or a combination of methods, we support their unique communication style.

AAC is not a replacement for speech — it's a tool to help your child express themselves, make choices, and connect with others. Many children who use AAC also develop spoken speech over time.

Is This Right for Your Child?

Your child might benefit from AAC support if they:

  • Have limited or no spoken speech
  • Use or are learning to use speech-generating devices
  • Benefit from visual supports or picture communication
  • Use sign language or other communication methods
  • Need support combining multiple communication strategies

How We Work Together

1

Assess Communication Needs

We evaluate your child's communication abilities, needs, and preferences to understand what AAC options might work best.

2

Explore Options

We explore different AAC methods — devices, picture boards, sign language, or combinations — to find what works for your child.

3

Train Your Family

We teach your child how to use their AAC method and train family members and caregivers to support them consistently.

4

Integrate into Daily Life

We help integrate AAC into daily routines and activities, supporting meaningful communication in real-life situations.

Every Child Deserves a Voice

Communication takes many forms. Tell us about your child and we'll help you explore the options that fit them best.
