Gestalt Language Processing

Support children who learn language in phrases and chunks, honoring their unique learning style.

What Is Gestalt Language Processing?

Some children learn language differently than others. Instead of learning word-by-word, they learn language in whole phrases or "chunks" — often from movies, songs, books, or people around them. This is called Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), and it's a natural and valid way to learn language.

Children who use GLP might repeat phrases from their favorite shows, use scripts in conversations, or mix up pronouns. Our approach honors this learning style while helping them move toward more flexible, spontaneous speech over time.

We're not trying to "fix" how they learn — we're supporting their natural development and helping them use language more flexibly.

Is This Right for Your Child?

Your child might benefit from GLP-informed therapy if they:

  • Repeat phrases or scripts from movies, shows, or songs
  • Use whole phrases rather than individual words
  • Mix up pronouns (like saying "you" instead of "I")
  • Have been diagnosed with autism or are neurodivergent
  • Learn language differently than typical word-by-word development

How We Work Together

Honor Their Style

We recognize that GLP is a valid learning style. We honor the phrases and scripts your child uses while gently supporting growth.

2

Build on Their Interests

We use their favorite movies, shows, songs, and interests to build language skills naturally and joyfully.

3

Support Flexibility

Over time, we help them use language more flexibly and spontaneously, at their own pace and in their own way.
